NarpsUK was founded in 2007 by the founder ‘and who was then owner’ of ‘Home from Home Dog Boarding Agency Ltd’ which is the largest dog-boarding agency of its kind in the UK as featured on the Channel 4 documentary series, ‘Personal Services’ (click link to see YouTube link). The agency, which was started by Marilyn Lewis - then housewife and mother working from home, specialises in boarding dogs in family homes and holds a register of over 300 dog carers throughout the Greater London area. It succeeded because of its structure, systems, marketing strategies and reputation The agency was sold on 31st March 2008 for £225,000.

As the founders of NarpsUK we have over 16 years’ experience in the dog boarding and pet sitting industry running the largest agency of its kind in the UK. During this time thousands of dogs were boarded and hundreds of problems were overcome by the agency that a pet sitter might incur for example, lost dogs, dogs showing aggressive tendencies, non-social dogs, illness, barkers, diggers, chewers, pining dogs, and every other imaginable problem that you can conceive - this in turn has given us the wealth of knowledge and experience that has led us to believe that we are experienced and capable of giving advice and guidance to others. We were possibly the first commercial home dog boarders in the UK. 

NarpsUK was involved in extensive meetings with the City of London inspectorate who came to our offices to discuss what model conditions should be adhered to by home dog boarders within the licensing conditions set for local councils. We were also involved in meetings with DEFRA regarding the boarding establishment act and spoke out to bring a fairer system in place for pet sitters who board dogs overnight for payment. The founder also sat on the committee for National Pet-sitters and attended meetings at government level regarding licensing issues relating to boarding dogs in family homes.
NarpsUK provides pet sitters with the essential tools to run their own successful pet-sitting business. NarpsUK mission is to lead in the promotion of excellence nationally among professional pet sitters and help them to create and grow successful pet sitting businesses.

We have come together to form a group of associates that holds a register of members with a certificate of membership and a place for pet sitters to start or grow their businesses in an ethical and professional manner with guidance structure.

We have a number of sound guidelines for members to refer to and work within.  Whilst we do not aim to be a policing organisation over such guidelines and therefore pet owners should make their own enquiries by way of references as to the reputation of the pet sitter, we hope that members will have a desire to improve their offerings to their customer dog owners. 

Our desire is for members to be active and vibrant in their membership and hope that our registered pet sitters will continually improve their customers (and pets) experience of the dog / pet sitting  & dog / pet boarding industry in the UK'.
